re: minimalism

today i got a new computer

my old laptop was nearing her 10th year; cpu totally fried, keys leveled, and screen bezel completely melted from use.

do you ever have an internal tug of war between sentimentality and a compulsive need to get rid of everything you own?

i look at all of the trinkets in my room and im physically incapable of putting any of them in the trash. this especilly applies to any item with an animal form or a cute face.

the dump was never an option.

so where do old things go?

they can be repurposed!

a few weeks back i rehomed a vintage art-deco vanity of mine that was in pretty bad shape to a woman who sawed it in half, painted it, and made a set of two coastal nightstands.

they can be rehomed!

list your old junk on fb marketplace for a good enough price and it'tl be gone within the day. only downside is the tedious act of arranging said meetups.

they can be repaired!

find out if your item is repairable! furniture, technology, and clothing, are often repairable. this may entail learning a new skill or enlisting the help of a professional.

re:

ive met some interesting people on marketplace

tonight i sold a rare evangelion figure to a dad with a pricey figure collecting hobbyist daughter. he showed me some of her collection and when i saw the level of asuka worship this girl displayed, i instantly knew i had to gift her my set of 2006 wonderfest eva figs that i didnt spot in her collection. i saw my younger self in her <3

ah. there are so many fond memories attached to each object i hold onto. so many good feelings i want to recreate and pass on for others. finding the perfect home for an item feels ...sanguine.

sometimes i wish i could black out and chuck my collectables in the bin... but then i remember days like today and feel conflicted again.

do you ever feel the same?
