on commuting via bike

my bike and i are like an on-again off-again couple.

i live 10 minutes from work no matter what vehicle i take, but if im cycling, i'll need extra time to prepare. i'll have to pack a mini go-bag: keys, lock, narcan, wallet, ps vita, headphones. i need to tuck and roll my jeans so they dont get caught in the derailleur. switch on all the flashy lights. tweak my helmet properly. i have to make sure i'm awake enough to enact defensive maneuvers when cars inevitably try to kill me.

when i fall behind in self care, dishes start to pile up, and my bedtime is pushed back further into the dawn, i tend to hop right in the car - sleep still in my eyes - and roll into work perpetually 5 minutes behind.

rushing does not save you time.

and as much as it hurts to admit, waking up with enough time to gather yourself and eat a light breakfast, is really nice.

i feel so put together when i have a slow morning and ride to work with time to smell the fresh air and linger if i feel called to. i find that my energy level starts and stays higher throughout the day when i am consistently biking to and from work.

i love when i clock out and the weather is gorgeous knowing i'll be feeling the breeze my whole way home.

i love my bike
